Staff training
PhD and Honours students are an important
part of the Get into Genes team. They work as presenters
for all Get into Genes workshops, teaching school
students a range of molecular biology techniques, discussing
their application to crop improvement, and sharing their own
experience as young researchers. PhD and Honours students
inspire younger children to consider careers in science and
biotechnology. In their feedback teachers unanimously rate the
experience of working with university student presenters
as highly valuable and enjoyable for their school students.
All Get into Genes staff undergo training for their role.
In addition, Get into Genes staff have obligations under
state law regarding working with children.
In South Australia all Get into Genes
staff are required to obtain a National Police Certificate.
In Victoria all Get into Genes staff are required to
obtain a Working With Children Check.
